My script is still a work in progress and relies on a lot of image files. I have also learned that cyber1.org frowns on this kind of thing so I feel kind of bad about doing it at all, much less sharing it. I will say that having good maps is the most important thing for safe progression, and that is doubly true for automation. More than once I have died to the script getting confused, including dying to the dragon. One odd thing I have noticed that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere is that in addition to secret doors, there are a few places where you can walk through what appears to be a solid wall. These illusory walls, oddly enough, appear to be open passages when viewed from adjacent rooms.Deadmoonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05206120434283799063noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6264881409789872629.post-39297195029221112432023-09-04T17:52:36.023-04:002023-09-04T17:52:36.023-04:00Nice, is your script available anywhere?Nice, is your script available anywhere?Toomsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6264881409789872629.post-6771387758219320062023-08-15T20:49:58.000-04:002023-08-15T20:49:58.000-04:00After getting into Aaron Reed's 50 Years of Te...After getting into Aaron Reed's 50 Years of Text Games, in which dnd, the Game of Dungeons, is featured for the year 1975, I decided to give this game a whirl. I was immediately frustrated by the PLATO key map, but I started getting used to it. Then I was frustrated by how utterly unforgiving and seemingly opaque this game is, and was reminded of how these kinds of games used to expect you to fail over and over until you eventually learned and figured out how it worked.

One of my most infuriating (now amusing) moments was trying to (r)edraw the map when I realized too late that I had encountered a book which I then accidentally (r)ead and exploded my character. I am now aware it is possible to turn off book encounters, but I then put my mind to ways to automate some of the more tedious aspects of the game, and figured out a way to use AutoHotKey to do screen scraping and decisionmaking.

So far, I have a stats reroller, a bot to use the short route in and out of the dungeon to get through the earliest levels of a new character using the correct spells, and another bot that speed runs a level 1 route with autofight turned on to farm equipment. Bot logic includes using the proper spells for each enemy, and using methods to assess the hazards of various treasures, and quickly discard the risky ones and keep the safe ones.

I'm still looking for a Magic Lantern to test my logic with, but I think all the other items are handled correctly. My next goal is to use AHK for data collection to facilitate deeper dungeon exploration.

If there are any open questions that you had about information that is visible on the screen, I'd consider them. I'm thinking I will try to log how hard each enemy hits, how enemy encounter difficulty scales with carried gold, and things like that. I'm on version 5.4.
Deadmoonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05206120434283799063noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6264881409789872629.post-28303834218542717692020-12-15T16:54:08.100-05:002020-12-15T16:54:08.100-05:00Nope.
